Operation Sindoor: India's Decisive Response to the Pahalgam Attack

In the early hours of May 7, 2025, India launched Operation Sindoor, a coordinated military operation targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This action was a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which resulted in the tragic loss of 26 civilian lives

Objectives and Execution

Operation Sindoor was a tri-services initiative, involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The operation aimed to dismantle terror camps linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Nine strategic targets were identified and neutralized

Four locations within Pakistan, including the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur and LeT's base in Muridke.

Five sites in PoK, notably in Muzaffarabad and Narowal.

The Ministry of Defence emphasized that the strikes were "focused, measured, and non-escalatory," deliberately avoiding Pakistani military installations to prevent broader conflict

Domestic Impact and Security Measures

Following the operation, India heightened its security posture:

Air Defence Activation: All air defence units along the India-Pakistan border were placed on high alert to counter any potential retaliation.

Airport Closures: Key airports in northern India, including Leh, Srinagar, and Amritsar, were temporarily closed. Flights were suspended or rerouted as a precautionary measure

Public Safety: Educational institutions in sensitive regions were closed or dismissed early, and security drills were conducted nationwide.

Political and Public Reactions

Operation Sindoor garnered widespread support across the Indian political spectrum:

Home Minister Amit Shah described the operation as "Bharat’s response to the brutal killing of our innocent brothers in Pahalgam."

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated, "140 crore Indians stand with our forces. Jai Hind!"

Families of the Pahalgam victims expressed a sense of justice. Pragati Jagdale, widow of one of the victims, remarked, "Operation Sindoor is a fitting tribute."
